In this week’s blog post, we are going to give you some brief podcast notes and takeaways from the book: “Two Meals A Day” by Mark Sisson and Brad Kearns. We will also give some great highlights of some amazing people getting it done in November.

In November I completed another book on intermittent fasting and nutrition. This time it was the Two Meal A Day book by Mark Sisson. Although it was a book on fasting, it turned into so much more. It touched on the importance of keeping a journal for mental health, and to control our nutritional habits.

The book touches on the importance of sleeping to be our best the next day. One of my favorite quotes from the chapter on sleep was this; “Dogs over Devices.” Yes, if we have a good night's sleep, don’t wake up and start our day by looking at our smartphones. Especially if we have a dog, they deserve to go for a walk daily. When we take our furry friends for a walk, of course, we are getting exercise first thing in the morning also.

I will let you read the book to see how strategies can apply to your life. Here are my takeaways from the book.

2 Meals A Day Takeaways

  • Avoid The Big Three (Read labels and avoid sugar, grains, and seed oils.)

  • 2 Meals A Day 18/6 (Sticking to eating only 2 solid, nutrient-dense meals per day is simple. Fasting anywhere between 16-18 hours. In your 6-8 hour eating window, there is no need to count calories if we are sticking to quality food sources.)

  • No Snacking - Our family is big snackers. Although I may only eat 1-2 major meals, those snacks add up. Grazing before the meal is done or after dinner munchies before closing the eating window can overflow my bucket.

  • Run Less Burn More by Adding Sprints - At marathons, we see people that carry extra weight. On a track sprint race, those runners are shredded, non-carrying extra weight. Sprints several times per week are very effective as regards your conditioning.

Bonus Takeaway…… How do you know if you are overfat? If your height is 5’6” that equates to 66”.  Your waistline measurement should be half your total height or less. In this example, the person’s weight measurement should be 33” or less. This is beautiful to see that it is not all about the scale. We must keep an eye on our belly bloat or how flat it is becoming.

I recommend this book to anyone looking to get into intermittent fasting, take their runs to another level or get a well-balanced view on total health.
